Questions & Answers

What is the DS2?

  • The DS2 is a self-contained unit that fully automates our ELISAs. It can process up to 192 samples in each run, has a small footprint and fits discretely into any lab environment.
  • The DS Matrix software takes you through the procedure one step at a time, with on-screen instructions guiding you from loading of samples to visualising test results.
  • The DS2 enables increased traceability and security, allowing bar code sample ID entry and electronic transfer of results to LIMS.

What are the dimensions of the DS2?

  • Width:                      53cm                21in
  • Depth:                      65cm               26in
  • Height:                     68cm               27in
  • Weight (net):           44kg                97lb
  • Shipping weight:   100kg             220lb

What is the OD450 value?

  • Solus assays result in the production of a yellow coloured result
  • The OD value is measure of how much of the yellow colour has been produced.
  • The concentration of colour produced is proportional to the amount of pathogen that was present in the sample.
  • Results are expressed as Optical Density (OD450) measurements using a microplate reader with a 450nm filter.
  • Assay acceptance criteria are detailed in the relevant pack inserts.
  • The value of the blanking well (usually A1) should always be subtracted.

How long does it take to process a sample?

  • Solus One Listeria a negative or a presumptive positive result following a single enrichment step within 24 hours hours. The ELISA part can be performed in 2 hours 45 minutes.
  • Solus Listeria ELISA provides a negative or a presumptive positive result including 2 enrichment steps within 44 to 52 hours. The ELISA part can be performed in less than 2 hours.
  • Solus Salmonella ELISA provides a negative or a presumptive positive result including 2 enrichment steps within 39 to 49 hours. The ELISA part can be performed in less than 2 hours.

What format are the results in?

  • The system can be set up to directly export your results in a .csv file to a folder of your choice. You can also print any previous reports that have been generated on the system.
  • We will also set up your system with an automatic back-up so that should the computer fail for any reason, e.g. power cut, your data will be easily recoverable.

How many samples can I run at a time?

The maximum number of samples that can be run on each 96-well plate is 93 as 3 wells are required for the controls. However, the DS2 can process two plates at the same time, either on the same or different protocols (e.g. one Salmonella plate and one Listeria plate)

Can a Listeria and Salmonella test be run on the same machine?

  • Yes, but we recommend participating in an Advanced User training program if this is something that you would like to do routinely
