Solus Scientific join in Impact Day 2019

The Solus team enthusiastically joined in the PerkinElmer global Impact Day 2019 earlier this month. Read on to find out what the teams got up to.

What is Impact Day?

The PerkinElmer global Impact Day occurs annually. It allows employees to support local charities and give back to the community in which they live and work. The four main areas that Impact Day supports are disease research, food, newborn health, and the environment. You can therefore imagine there is a wide range of opportunities for employees to contribute to!

Team East Kilbride

The majority of the Solus team took part across three different sites across the UK. Our East Kilbride team offered their services to the CalderGlen Country Park and Zoo; a wonderful park where the local community can go to enjoy nature and relax. Animal conservation is a large part of the zoo’s work. It is also involved in a number of programs to release animals back into the wild.

After an introduction to the important work the zoo is involved in, the team rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into helping clean up some of the animal enclosures and tanks and sprucing up visitor areas. They scrubbed, raked, sanded, squeegeed (is that really a word?!), and painted. By all reports they had a fantastic time and look forward to helping out again in future.

Team Mansfield

Mansfield site employees went to the nearby Oakham Nature Reserve. Here they split into two teams and helped the Maun Conservation Group with some maintenance tasks. The river Maun runs through the site so one group went to help clean up the river. They also helped with maintenance work on the bridge and cleared pathways and steps of overgrown plants. The other group helped clear old, unnecessary fencing from within a woodland area nearby to allow conservationists better access throughout the area.

Solus are immensely proud to have been able to help our communities. Everyone involved said they had a great time and we all look forward to further opportunities to help out in future events such as this. Check out some photos of the day here: Impact Day 2019 photo album
